Short Bull. Short Bull of the Lakotah people. He was a warrior and a Medicine Man who fought at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He and Kicking Bear brought the Ghost Dance to the Lakotas. Through many miscalculations by federal and army officials, the Ghost Dance resulted in the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. After the Massacre, Slwrt Bull was sent to prison.

The warriors in these paintings were spiritual leaders of their people. I have portrayed them in the way European Renaissance painters would portray their spiritual leaders with halos around their heads. Since the American Indians believe we are all connected to all living things I used natural skies for halos.
