Geronimo ( Goyakla) A medicine man and legendary leader of the Bedonkohe Apache. Early in is life a band of Mexican soldiers raided his village while he and his warriors were gone and the soldiers killed his mother, wife and three daughters. I have honored them with thejive stars in the sky on the right side of the painting . He spent the rest of his life seeking revenge for this attack and showed no mercy. After many years of fighting Geronimo finally surrendered and of course was treat­ ed badly by the government who broke one agreement after another.

The warriors in these paintings were spiritual leaders of their people. I have portrayed them in the way European Renaissance painters would portray their spiritual leaders with halos around their heads. Since the American Indians believe we are all connected to all living things I used natural skies for halos.
